Read MoreAs we dive into Round 3 of the AUSX Championship, the latest handicaps (hcp) have gone live for the SX1 and SX2 classes on FastMoto! Handicaps add a strategic edge to your fantasy picks, giving riders a scoring boost. A handicap of +3 means a rider finishing in 5th place would earn 2nd place points, rewarding savvy fantasy managers who identify riders poised for comebacks or breakout performances.
This blog will review key handicap changes from Rounds 1 and 2, highlight riders whose updated handicaps might make them valuable picks, and point out scoring trends across both SX1 and SX2 classes.
Matt Moss (hcp +2) A strong rider with serious potential, Matt Moss faced challenges in the first two rounds, scoring 10 points in Round 1 and bouncing back with 24 points in Round 2, totalling 34 Fantasy Champ Points. His handicap has been adjusted from +0 to +2 for Round 3, a favourable shift for a rider of his caliber. With the new hcp, even a 5th place finish could yield points equivalent to a 3rd place, giving Moss solid value this round.
Robbie Marshall (hcp +8) Marshall's handicap rise from +4 to +8 makes him an appealing underdog pick. His performances netted him 13 Fantasy Champ Points in the first two rounds, but with an extra 4-point handicap advantage, he could surprise fantasy managers this round by translating mid-pack finishes into higher-tier points.
Brett Metcalfe (hcp +3) Consistently scoring well (35 and 28 points in Rounds 1 and 2, respectively, totalling 63 points), Metcalfe's handicap dropped slightly from +5 to +3. Despite this change, he remains one of the top-scoring SX1 riders. His solid form combined with his adjusted handicap keeps him as a top-tier pick.
Hayden Mellross (hcp +3) One of the standout riders so far, Mellross leads with 70 Fantasy Champ Points, having earned 35 points in both rounds. With a modest handicap shift from +5 to +3, Mellross remains a popular pick, providing both stability and upside, especially if he maintains his podium potential.
Alex Larwood (hcp +1) Larwood has impressed with 62 Fantasy Champ Points (27 in Round 1 and 35 in Round 2), leading the SX2 class. His handicap has been reduced from +4 to +1, reflecting his strong form. Though the change lowers his fantasy appeal slightly, he's still one of the top scorers, making him a high-risk, high-reward pick.
Brodie Connolly (hcp +0) Another top contender, Connolly's 47 Fantasy Champ Points across the first two rounds solidify his standing. His handicap remains neutral at +0, which may require him to finish near the top to deliver substantial points, yet his consistency makes him a reliable choice.
Reid Taylor (hcp +3) Taylor has demonstrated potential with 32 Fantasy Champ Points. His handicap increase from +0 to +3 could turn out to be advantageous, as it allows for competitive finishes to translate into better points without requiring podium placements. For managers looking for an under-the-radar pick, Taylor offers a solid upside.
Kaleb Barham (hcp +4) Barham's recent increase from +0 to +4 opens opportunities for him to gain valuable points despite finishing mid-pack. Scoring 23 points in the first two rounds, his boosted handicap could make him a sleeper pick for Round 3.
Luke Zielinski (hcp +5): A moderate increase from +4 to +5, Zielinski holds a stable scoring record with 32 points across the rounds.
Cody O'Loan (hcp +9): Maintaining strong results, his bump from +8 to +9 can benefit fantasy teams looking for a steady mid-tier scorer.
Brett Metcalfe & Dean Wilson: Top riders with minimal or zero handicaps, they may still be worth picking based on their high scoring consistency, though they lack the scoring bonus that comes with a higher handicap.
Kayden Minear (hcp +3): Minear's handicap moved slightly down from +4 to +3, while his 44 points across the rounds keep him as a favourable pick.
Jack Kitchen (hcp +11): With a notable handicap increase, Kitchen's +11 could reward risk-taking fantasy players aiming for high rewards.
Cole Thompson (hcp +0): Though without a handicap boost, Thompson remains a consistent scorer with 37 points across rounds, ideal for managers seeking reliability over upside.
